aJ

I have just finished up on the final touches of decorating my laptop – now it really looks like it should belong to me.

Let me show you the results of this transformation. :) Here’s how it looked and looks inside of my NEC Versa L2100:

You ought to have noticed the new Mandriva (the Linux OS I now use) sticker there. And now for the front facade:

Cool? The camera isn’t fantastic though, so there’s plenty of speckle in these pictures. But again, the true art behind this isn’t the photography. This is more of a personalisation job than an eye candy job, though. You will notice the distinctive trademark “aJ” blue decal on the upper-right – that design has been with me for years; it marks me as the owner of the laptop. There’s a little white inside the letter “a” that I cannot get rid of properly though without destroying the entire decal, but I think that’s fine for me.

The left holds the face of the guy from “The Scream” by Edvard Munch – it’s the face of one screaming out against his internal existential anxiety.

The bottom, you can compare and recognize, comes from the same source as the header image of The Staccato Slur – Foucault the baldy, Nietzsche the hairy and Sartre the shorty from left to right. I think the original pictures which I derived the header image from actually falls under the intellectual property domain of “personality rights”, but it’s fine because I’m not actually commercializing or exploiting their image for any wicked cause. If any, it ought to be something like an opinionated essay or viewpoint of mine citing ideas of theirs; but academics don’t sue each another for unhappy citation incidents, do they? Oh well, am I an academic? Darn. :) I quote fair use. Ugh. Whatever that helps. I shall go hunting for the originals soon to ascertain their copyright status.

I think in some sense the decals now function as some form of anti-theft device for my laptop now – why would anyone wish to steal such a strange-looking laptop? Excellent. But who shall guard the guards? The decals themselves look appetizing enough for me to steal them already, if already I didn’t own them. In case you are curious, I made these using a brand of laptop skin merchandise called Farrania Ink Mask. I’m quite satisfied with the quality really, of the printing, but durability will prove to be the harder test to pass – I hope that these decals can stand the test of time or something, anyway. Especially spilled coffee, too.

Alright now, on a different note, in my previous post I mentioned stuff about Piwik, a web statistics software. Well, I’m glad to say that it’s finally up. I’m totally impressed with the lengths to which my host went to get it working. For now I’ve thought to make access to Piwik on my server public; that is to say that you can just head over to it and take a look at the visitor statistics and stuff on my site, though you cannot change what you see – that power belongs to me. :)
